Email:

A specialist practitioner for twenty five years and a member of his Nottingham chambers since 1992 Stuart, by common consent, is "one of the most consistently adept performers and safest pair of hands at the Criminal Bar". His areas of expertise are manifold. He is called upon routinely to prosecute and defend in high profile cases of all varieties whether as a leading junior or alone.

The predominant elements of his practice are:

  • - Murder and attempted murder.
  • - Manslaughter (both unlawful act and gross negligence).
  • - Violence to the person involving the use of firearms.
  • - Rape and child sex abuse.
  • - Drug trafficking inclusive of confiscation proceedings.
  • - Serious fraud.

A passionate believer in continuing education Stuart has for many years served as an Advocacy trainer to the Midland Circuit and acted as a Facilitator on Human Rights Act courses organised for the Bar as a whole.

What little free time remains to him is occupied by his family, gardening, walking, music, good food, wine and convivial company.

Stuart has been a Recorder of the Crown Court since 2001.
