Among John Carmichael’s claims to fame is appearing as the first junior for the main defendant in R v Pound, the longest ever English criminal trial. This complicated fraud case concerned a conspiracy about fees and contract prices in the world of architects, quantity surveyors and building companies.

As a result of this case, John case gained a profound knowledge of the architect’s profession and the operation of building contracts. Moreover, since the technical nature of the material demanded a technical approach and mindset, John has developed an unusually high degree of skill with the various IT tools available for case preparation and presentation.

John’s experience of general crime is as broad as his white collar expertise. It runs the gamut from firearms offences, ‘Yardie’ double murders and organised gang kidnappings, to the large-scale smuggling of illegal labour. Hijacking is a more unusual area of experience. John typically appears for the defence, though he has some experience of prosecuting.
