Fer Chinner’s efficient but sympathetic manner has helped her build a fast-growing reputation for skill in handling cases involving vulnerable witnesses, such as children and the elderly. Her specialisms include prosecuting and defending violent and sexual crime, drug offences, dishonesty cases and fraud.
Fer has successfully prosecuted a number of cases where the elderly were ‘tricked’ into parting with their savings without there being a ‘technical’ deception. Other recent highlights include robbery, kidnap and serious sexual assault trials, along with a multi-handed car ringing case, in which high-value cars were stolen and given new identities before being shipped out of the country.
Fer has been instructed as junior defence counsel in a conspiracy to murder trial (Triad killings) involving 22 defendants, and a conspiracy to defraud case relating to large-scale credit card cloning in the Sri Lankan community, again involving multiple defendants. Her impressive track record also includes R v Lashley, which established a new ground of appeal against conviction based on the unacceptable behaviour and rudeness of the trial judge towards counsel. She is a member of the South Eastern Circuit and the Criminal Bar Association.
