Anthony Evans Q.C. is an experienced practitioner in all areas of criminal law and also in licensing matters involving both drink and entertainment licensing and betting licensing. He has also been involved in a number of planning enquiries on behalf of developers and local authorities.
Since taking Silk Anthony has predominantly been involved in defence work in serious crime and complex fraud but has also conducted a number of prosecutions in serious cases including murder, manslaughter (baby shaking) and serious cases for the S.F.O. He has been for a number of years a leading Silk in Crime in Chambers Directory.
Anthony’s criminal practice has involved cases of organised crime and gangland shootings. He has defended in cases involving yardies, Tamil gangs and of late has successfully defended in cases involving a number of West London Street gangs.
As well as crimes of violence Anthony has defended in cases of serious fraud including a successful defence of one of the Defendants in the Microsoft case.
Anthony has also defended police officers charged with corruption in particular an officer acquitted having been prosecuted following the Appeal of the Guilford 4. He obtained a stay of execution, as an abuse of process, of the proceedings against police officers charged following the Wapping riots. He has represented police officers from the South East Regional Crime Squad charged with corruption and a further officer charged with corruption and large scale drug importation.
He was instructed to represent the principal defendant in the Reading case where 2 girls were abducted by a gang of young men from South London taken to a hotel in Reading and raped and then taken to a nearby park where one girl was killed and the other shot and fortuitously survived.
