Health & Safety/ Regulatory Work
Chambers has a strong and well-developed practice in this field. Members of chambers are regularly instructed on behalf of both the prosecution and the defence in relation to Health and Safety Act offences and a wide range of regulatory/disciplinary work.
Many members of the team are actively involved in the work of both the Health and Safety Lawyers Association (HSLA) and the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL). Members of chambers regularly represent clients such as Local Authorities and Prosecution agencies in a variety of fields of prosecution, including breaches of planning law and offences against the environment. A specialist team in chambers also provides expert advice to clients across the board of regulatory offences.
The range of experience within chambers extends to cases involving the most serious allegations of breaches of Health and Safety offences, including deaths in the work place and corporate manslaughter. Chambers have experience in advising in relation to large scale environmental prosecutions, both in this jurisdiction and overseas. In addition to advising and defending in these cases, Chambers has a strong ethic of education within this field; members of chambers dedicate a substantial amount of their time to providing accredited training programmes, both in house to solicitors and to corporate entities. Members of chambers have advised and acted for international organisations such as the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Academy of Environment Sciences.
